Season's Greetings from the whole team at Assist Community Services! As we approach the end of 2024, we hope it has been a fulfilling year for you, and we send our best wishes for a joyful and successful 2025.
At Assist Community Services, we love celebrating the unique talents and passions of our participants. Today, we're excited to showcase the incredible artwork of Sherrin, one of our talented participants whose love for drawing shines through in every piece she creates.
At Assist Community Services, one of our core values is Optimism. As a NDIS organisation dedicated to supporting participants to achieve their goals, we know that a positive outlook can make a world of difference in both our work and personal lives.
There are multiple roles in support work at Assist Community Services that can be both rewarding and flexible. Our workforce includes staff who have made support work their career. University students who use support work as a way to put themselves through Uni, trades people who have entered their second career, parents who love the flexibility of working school hours, and shift workers who love the flexibility of nightwork. No matter what draws them to support work, we find that staff often comment on how fulfilling their employment in support work is.
Each day as a support worker is unique, filled with different activities and interactions. It's a job that requires flexibility, empathy, and a genuine desire to help others. While the tasks might change, the core of what we do remains the same: supporting our participants to live the life they want to live, how they want to live it.
The support for individuals offered by Assist Community Services recognises the diversity and choice of each individual, family and their carers. At Assist Community Services we now have capacity to support more NDIS participants.
Meet Emmett, one of our dedicated Lifestyle Support Workers, whose journey has taken him from the world of baking in a small country town bakery to the fulfilling realm of support work. Before embracing his role as a support worker, Emmett's career path meandered through fitting and turning, as well as boiler making. When asked about his career shift, he expressed the desire for genuine and passionate work, finding profound satisfaction in supporting others.
In the journey towards independence, the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) plays a pivotal role in empowering NDIS participants to lead fulfilling lives. One key aspect of this support is Supported Independent Living (SIL), a service designed to provide assistance and encouragement to individuals to live independently.
